A couple of weekends ago we took a trip to Casey, Illinois, home of 8 of the World’s Largest things, including a mailbox and rocking chair — super awesome. Of course I had to see the World’s Largest Crochet Hook and Knitting Needles. I had seen the photos and videos online. In order to break the world record, the shop owner had to knit and crochet a 10×10 square with these hooks. Here’s one of the videos of her doing it.
The needles and hook are kept at The Yarn Studio in Casey, Illinois. The knitting needles are just over 13 feet tall and weigh 25 pounds each. Can you imagine trying to knit with those?! But she did!! And the 10×10 square is also at the shop. The crochet hook (that I didn’t get a great photo of) is just over 6 feet tall and weighs 9 pounds!
It was a little tough to get a clear photo since it’s displayed in front of the window. The light coming in made it difficult. You can see behind the knitting needles a photo of the shop owner setting the record. What a cool thing to be a part of!
One of the things I noticed as we went around town was that all of the big things had a bible verse on them that somewhat related to the item. I thought that was really neat and tried to get a photo of most of them. Some of them were hard to get because of where they were on the object, for instance, the knitting needles. The verse was inscribed on the length of the knitting needle and crochet hook.
So there it is. My trip to the World’s Largest Crochet Hook and Knitting Needles. Super cool. I had been to Casey when I was younger, before all the big stuff moved in, and this was definitely worth the visit. Just for kicks, here are a few more pics from the trip. World’s Largest Windchimes, Mailbox, and Rocking Chair. The woodwork on the rocking chair was beautiful!
And then just one more of me with the knitting needles…
