My 2016 Anti-Resolutions

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life it’s that life usually doesn’t go as you expect or plan for. This is why I think New Year’s Resolutions are total crap. In past years I have resolved to eat better, run a mile every day (didn’t last a full week), learn Italian (does cooking lasagna count?), blog 3 times a week (failed miserably), create 2 paintings (actually did that one), and a host of other resolutions, some of which didn’t make it past the first two weeks.

And making resolutions as a parent is just plain hard. Ya never know what is going to happen, who’s going to get sick and put a wrench in your plans, or the exhaustion that will keep you from doing those well-thought out resolutions.

So this year I’m going to save myself the disappointment of closing the year with not a single resolution accounted for. This year I’m making anti-resolutions. I like goals, but my problem with resolutions is that there is no clear goal or timeline. You just kinda wing it. Ain’t nobody got time for that! My anti-resolutions for 2016 are things that I need to do and want to do for the betterment of myself and those around me.

My 2016 Anti-Resolutions are:

  • I will not stop drinking coffee.

  • I will not miss out on time spent with those I care about, even if it doesn’t fit nicely into my comfort bubble or schedule.

  • I will try my hardest to not take up skydiving.

  • I will not neglect or wreck my body and health.

  • I will do my best to not self-sabotage.

  • I will not spend more than an hour a day in activities that don’t better my heart, mind, body, soul, or business.

  • I will not be a stranger to those I meet.

  • I will not stop trying to come up with creative ideas.

  • I will try not to superglue my fingers together.

  • I will try not to be someone else or hold myself back for fear of what others may think.

Now, let’s take on 2016 and show it who’s boss!!!

What are your resolutions or anti-resolutions?
